MURPHYSBORO - Robert William Arnold, 79, of Murphysboro, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2026,
He was a teacher in the Murphysboro School District and at John A. Logan College in math.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Barbara; two children, Kent Arnold and Heather Sunny; his seven grandchildren; a sister, Joyce Bonifield; a brother, Dennis Arnold; along with many other loving family members.
His parents were Lee and Elaine (Roach) Arnold.
Services to celebrate his life will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, in the United Methodist Church in Murphysboro. A visitation will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the church (1500 Pine St.). Services will follow immediately with burial at Oakland Cemetery, 1100 N. Oakland Ave., Carbondale. A reception and food will be from 2:30-530 p.m. at Sunflower Farms Event Center, 4423 Country Club Road, Murphysboro.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Murphysboro 186 Education Foundation c/o Robert Arnold Memorial Scholarship Fund. Memorials can be mailed to: Murphysboro Community Unit School District 186, 593 Ava Road, Murphysboro, IL 62966. Memorials may also be made to the scholarship through PayPal (Search Murphysboro CUSD 186 Education Foundation.)
