Nancy Rodgers Obituary

Nancy A. Rodgers

May 6, 1936 - July 26, 2025

Nancy A. Rodgers, 89, of Grand Island, NE passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at Tiffany Square.

Memorial services will be held at 11 AM Friday, August 1, 2025 at Apfel Funeral Home with Derek Apfel officiating. Burial of ashes will be in the Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the family for distribution to Voice for Companion Animals (VCA) or Grand Island Little Theater (GILT).

Nancy was born on May 6, 1936 in Natick, Massachusetts, to Chester T. and Alta B. (Cochrane) Robbins. Her family moved to Nebraska in 1943 and made their home in Hastings, NE. She attended schools in Natick and Hastings, graduating from Hastings High. She then went on to Hastings College and earned her BA in English, Speech and Secondary Education. She began her teaching career in Ogallala in 1958.

She married Warren D. Rodgers in 1959, and in 1961 moved to Grand Island. Along with raising

three children, at various points in her life, she taught school, supervised the Senior High computer lab, was an academic aide, receptionist at the YWCA, secretary at Messiah Lutheran Church, secretary at Knickrehm School, and taught summer school English. She was president of the Knickrehm PTA, life member of the Nebraska PTA, director of the Cherub Choir at Trinity Methodist, and performed for GILT and St. Stephen's summer musicals and gave book reviews. She was a Girl Scout leader, board member of the Goldenrod Girl Scout Council, and a past board member of VCA.

In the last few years, she made many new friends in the residents and staff at Tiffany Square. She enjoyed her bingo days and exercise classes. Some of her favorite past-times included watching Hallmark movies, coloring, crossword puzzles, and using "that hand held computer" for shopping.

Her most prize possession though were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Andrews, and Robyn (Don) Mays; son, Timothy Rodgers; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Bette Brown.

You always knew that it was Nancy with her big smile. She was the boss at Grand Island Senior high School so stays department. She was always a bright moment in the work day.

When I pulled up Nancy's obituary, that same beautiful smile on that same beautiful face was there on the page beaming, and I remembered seeing that wonderful smile every day at school. Nancy was a hard, hard worker who did so much for teachers and students, and she always did her work with a cheerful, loving heart. I am sad to think she is not in this world anymore, blessing the people around her--that is what she was, a blessing! My heart is with yours.

I remember Mrs. Roger´s from Knickrehm. She always had a smile every morning and a hug. She was my Girl Scout leader too. She was a fabulous lady that I missed when we moved away from the east side.
She will be greatly missed. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Oh Robyn, so sorry to read about your mother's passing. She was such a good friend to Agnes Ayoub and an inspiration to all of us. She wrote the most beautiful poem when our son Max arrived, which we cherish to this day. Our thoughts are with you and your family now. Wishing you peace and comfort and wonderful memories. Love, George and Jacalyn Ayoub
