This is a memory from almost 20 years ago. My daughter was about 5 and we met Mike for a museum visit at the Whitney. He took her to see the Calder Circus and explained all of the bits and pieces to her. I still remember the two of them bending over the case.
Mike was a warmhearted human and always had a kind word for others. Sometimes he would email out of the blue just to say "hi" - not much more. Those were some of the most touching emails I received, because they showed how much he cared about those around him. May he rest in peace.

Remembering Mike, someone I never got to meet but his presence was felt through the heartfelt stories shared by Mary, whom I greatly admire. Mike always called on Mary's landline during our Zoom calls, and his cheerful greetings became a familiar part of our virtual gatherings. I really wish I could've met him in person. Rest in peace, Mike.

Mike, we miss you, and will always remember you very fondly for your brilliance and sparkling wit. We especially miss your telephone calls (we always knew it was you calling, regardless of the person you were comically posing to be), during which you always had some new, fascinating, often funny story to share. You could speak to each of us, an architect and engineer, on our own terms--particularly given that you were always inquisitive about how things work, and could explain or draw the details of those workings in the most clear and clever but surprisingly intricate manner. You had a style that was unmistakeably "Mike" and that is what we'll miss the most.

There are so many memories of Mike and Mary, we shared many friends from Columbia University. I spent my whole career at Columbia, as did a lot of other people and others like Mike who continued to be a part of campus life. The campus has a lot of underground tunnels and hallways that connect buildings and the campus. I would often run into Mike in one of these locations, each of us going to a different location and we would have brief and intense discussions. When I least expected it, I would run into him in a different area of campus. Mike was unfailingly curious and helpful, and occasionally he could pull a relevant clipping from his bag of clippings that he carried with him. He was always at the ready for his friends. His energy was a blessing to us all. He is missed by many.

I join with my friend and former colleague, Bob Stark, in reminiscing our close friendship we shared with MIKE, whose regular visits to our Mechanical Engineering Lab, at Columbia University were moments of sheer intellectualism. Mike always had a captive audience in the manner he communicated, and the knowledge he shared with us all, including our students. He was funny and a truly exceptional and unforgettable human being and character. May he continue to Rest in Eternal peace.

I truly miss Mike so much. He used to come by the Mechanical Engineering lab at Columbia University and we would discuss who knows what. Then he would engage the students in all kinds of interesting topics. Mike was one of the most interesting and intelligent people I have ever known and a real mensch. RIP my friend.
