Raymond Adams Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 11, 2024.

Raymond Gill Adams, 89 of Fayetteville, NC went to his heavenly home on May 17, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on

July 27, 1934 in Harnett County to Cappie Leona Adams and James Carl Adams.

Raymond spent 32,802 days on this earth which was not nearly enough for someone so loved.

He was a devoted husband to Margretta for almost 70 years, spending the last two as her primary caregiver.

He was determined to do whatever it took to provide her the best care even after he became ill.

Raymond worked the swing shift as a Communication Supervisor at Fort Bragg for 35 years. Upon retiring, he enjoyed golfing, working-out and mastering the skill of watching 5-6 TV shows simultaneously. He also was an experienced weather forecaster, an ice cream connoisseur, dessert lover and a professional shopper always searching for the best deals.

His most important job though was being a father to three sons, Steve(Nancy), Ron(Cindy) and Rick. "The boys" all considered him their best friend. Dad spent countless hours golfing, fishing, hunting and shopping for them. The daily phone calls were filled with weather updates, sports scores and good advice.

After the boys left grandchildren started appearing. Grandaddy spoiled them with spectacular Christmas's where the presents were so numerous that they did not even fit under the tree. Trips to the beach and underage driving "lessons" were also cherished memories.

Don't think for a moment it stopped there, great grandchildren were to come along to keep G-Pa busy. There were always bikes, toys, stuffed animals and clothes to take home after every visit. Many calls were placed regarding the correct sizes and favorite candy choices. He loved taking them to Lafayette Memorial Park to place flowers on the graves that didn't have any, feed the geese and drive super fast over the speed bumps on Tokay.

All of us enjoyed being around him even if you had to occasionally work. Ray liked to assign tasks which included popping weeds, raking leaves, washing the truck, picking up pecans, golf and tennis balls. Our reward was spending time with him.

Raymond was an expert at making you feel special. Once Dad knew what you loved he never forgot.

We asked Dad before he passed, "What are we going to do without you?" And he said "It will be okay," but we are left trying to figure out how life without him will be ok. We do find comfort knowing he is with Jesus waiting to greet us one day.

Raymond is now reunited with Carl and Cappie/parents, siblings Runell(Leo), Ronnie and great grandson Kingsley.

Praise be to the Grandchildren: Kristin(Joey), Kendall(Dave), Kelly, Kory(Molly) Jake, Jessica(Holly) Kristin, Kyle(Maggie) Karen(Chris) and Kevin.

Great grandchildren: Remington, Ryland, Roc, Josephine, Cora and Griffin. Former daughter-in-law, Colleen. Nieces: Connie(Pete) Kathy(Sonny) Tammy(Eddie) and Margie. Nephews: Carl Jr. and Robert. Double first cousin: Jerry(Margaret) and their child Kim(David). Cousin: Glenda(Rayburn). Special friends: Laura, Melinda Matthews, Patsy Bullard, Shirley Byrd, Sam Monroe and Frank from the auto-shop, Rhudy's Pawn Shop and the ladies at Northwood Temple Thrift shop.

Thanks to Northwood Temple Church for feeding their bodies and souls with all the delivered meals they provided. An extra blessing goes to Cambridge Hills of Pittsboro for their utmost love and compassion while taking care of our Dad, Grandaddy and G-Pa.

Raymond was a generous, witty, funny and always kind person who was exceptionally caring of everyone he knew. A beautiful person who lived a great life and was adored by everyone who knew him. A lovely person who was a blessing to everyone who knew him.

What a beautiful obituary, it describes him perfectly. He was my Uncle, but I loved him like a Father. He let me drive his truck (or at least I thought I was driving) at a very young age and had more patience than one can imagine. Our time left on earth will not be the same without him. My peace comes from knowing that he is with our Heavenly Father and our family that passed before him. Apparently, Mom was waiting for him as he called her name as he was passing. It gave me such joy to know she was taking him to meet our Father in Heaven. We love you Uncle Ray and will miss you every minute of every day!!
