Allan Kimball Obituary

Allan Sanborn Kimball

Bow, NH - Allan Sanborn Kimball, 84, passed away on October 20, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. Allan grew up in the South End of Concord and graduated from Concord High School in 1957, later receiving his EEG from the Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston. He was employed in Sales and Marketing by Sprague Electric in Concord for many years, and in 1993 became the President and Chief Operating Officer of its spin-off company Allegro Microsystems in Worcester, MA. He retired from Allegro in 2000. While working at Sprague, Allan met the love of his life, Joyce (Warren) Reynolds. They were married in 1973 and lived a full life raising their four children, pursuing their careers and traveling to many parts of the world. Allan particularly enjoyed spending time in Italy, Germany and Switzerland, often traveling with family or friends.

Allan gave back to his community in a number of ways, serving as Chairman of the Concord Chapter of the American Red Cross and upon relocating to the Worcester, MA area, and as a member of both the Board of the Worcester Business Development Cooperation and the Worcester Municipal Research Bureau. Upon his retirement, he volunteered for the Concord Regional Crimeline, and as a driver for the Community Action Program for many years where he provided their clients with transportation to doctor appointments, etc. He was grateful that early retirement and good health afforded him the opportunity to spend quality time with his grandchildren in their early years and later by attending many of their baseball, basketball, football, hockey, soccer and volleyball games as well as dance recitals, both local and away.

He was predeceased by his parents Ralph and Ethel Kimball, his sister Marilyn Champagne and his infant brother Dean.

Allan leaves his loving wife Joyce of 50 years; children James Kimball and his wife Maureen of Webster, Dee Treybig and her husband Philip of Bow, Kathy Smith and her husband Todd of Bow and D. Scott Reynolds and his wife Susan of Concord; Grandchildren: Brendan Kimball of Boston, Jonathan Kimball and his wife Sarah, also of Boston, Garin and Connor Treybig of Bow, Sarah (Smith ) Simpson and her husband Scott of Waltham, Daniel Smith of Boston, and Catherine, Alexander and Nicholas Reynolds, all of Concord.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 3rd from 4-7 p.m. at Waters Funeral Home, 50 S. Main Street, Concord.

Funeral services will be held at Waters Funeral Home on Saturday, November 4th at 10 a.m. followed by burial at the Evans Cemetery in Bow.

Dear Joyce and Family,

Joyce and I are so sorry to hear of the passing of Allan. He was such a great friend and mentor to me from the time I met him all through my career. Allan believed in the vision of investing in the small sensor business within Allegro. Through that support Allan showed that he believed in me, guiding, mentoring, and supporting my personal and professional growth. He understood and supported the innovative culture that was required to make this business grow and brought optimism in dealing with every challenge we faced. He understood and cherished the personal and human side of being a leader, connecting with employees with a smile and not being afraid to show us his dance moves at our Christmas parties! Allan´s vision created a foundation for Allegro´s sensor and automotive business and set the stage for the success that Allegro has today.

We are very grateful for the fun times spent together with you and Allan at home and abroad and to have been included in so many of your gatherings at your beautiful home in Bow filled with love and laughter and family and friends. Our deepest condolences for your loss of this kind and gentle man.

Love, Ravi and Joyce Vig

A man of kindness and caring. Having worked with Allan for two decades, much of that time on his staff, I, like many, benefited from his kindheartedness. His counsel during a difficult time in my personal life 30 years ago remains with me today.
Allan created the people culture of Allegro, a culture that was the foundation for future success, and resulted in fulfilling, multi-decade careers for many people. His management-by-wandering-around style and "thanks for coming in" greetings were emblematic of an executive leader who connected with the people and garnered their respect and support. Always a man of kindness and caring.
My condolences to the family.

I got to know Allan while working in his organization at Allegro Microsystems in the early 1990s. Allan was a fantastic person and leader. My most fond memory: Even though I was levels below Allan on the org chart, he would often take the time and effort to walk around the office, talk with the "troops", and share his quick wit. I haven't thought about Allan in years; what a great role model!
