Carrie Schopf Obituary

nee Krewson ("Scotchie" to her family and friends). Longtime Lakewood physician and resident of Rocky River since her retirement. Loving mother of Kenneth (Dr. Regina Campbell-Malone), Dr. Jennifer (Jon Fiedler), and Carl, and grandchildren: Griffin and Carter Schopf, Naima and Zadie Schopf-Malone, and Fritz Fiedler. Devoted sister of Ella Jane Fowerbaugh and Charlotte Partlow. Supportive aunt of Albert Fowerbaugh, Jr., Elizabeth Fowerbaugh Jones, Andrew Fowerbaugh, George Sent, Jr., Gregory Sent, and Christian Sent. Preceded in death by parents Carrie Ella McDowell and Arthur Eugene Krewson, both Cleveland pharmacists. A graduate of Lakewood High School, Vassar College, and the University of Chicago School of Medicine, Dr. Schopf practiced and taught family medicine and public health in Cleveland, Chicago, Boston, and on Cape Cod. She directed the Admission and Ambulatory Care Center of Lakewood Hospital for over 20 years, and was Commissioner of Health for the City of Lakewood from 1980-1992. She believed in caring for people as unique, complex individuals, each of whom deserved her best effort and sufficient time to be thorough; she tried to pass on this same philosophy to the many students with whom she worked. Her favorite place on earth was a small house in Woods Hole, Cape Cod, where she spent part of each summer for almost 50 years. There, shedding schedules and responsibilities, she relaxed within the atmosphere of that scientific community, reading while the early morning fog lifted from the beach, playing pinochle and cribbage wherever she found a game, working with stained glass, and hosting her yearly "lobster fests". Friends and family are welcome to join us from 1-4 on May 21, 2022, at Nicholson House, 13335 Detroit Avenue in Lakewood, for an informal remembrance. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to H20, Help to Others, a service-learning program for high school and middle school youth: http://thelakewoodfoundation.org/h2o/donate-to-h2o/. Kenny, Jennifer & Carl,
Please accept our sincerest condolences. Your mom was the only mom I´ve ever known that not only put up with years of loud band practice but also totally spoiled us by having the greatest practice studio ever built for our band!
Will always have great memories because of what she did for us.

Another light has left us she will be sorely missed from Woods Hole as well as everywhere,
Fun times on the lane,
Lying on Nobska beach,
Card games on the porch,
Soo many laughs,

Thanks for sharing your family with us...................

Dear Ken, Jen, and Carl and families,
Your mom was a truly special lady, and I have great memories of her sense of humor, her great generosity, and her take on the world. I am so grateful to have known her, and I send you all much love as we all think about her together.

Sincere condolences to all of the family. Being a good friend of Ken´s since the 2nd grade, I spent many times at the Schopf household and Carrie ("Mrs. Schopf") was always very kind and generous, sharing hospitality while we kids played "Dungeons & Dragon´s" or listened to our favorite songs on vinyl! Many good memories! God Bless to all.
