Dear David, Helen and Juliet
Sending our heartfelt condolences as you farewell dear Terry.
Mum has many happy memories of hours spent chatting with Terry and our families going back to the 70s. 6 Mountainview is a place that´s still strong her mind and she recalls Terry improving the house in creative ways, installing an outdoor shower and building a kiln to fire his pottery - often using new and unusual techniques like salt firing. Mum remembers he was always looking for different ways of doing things. He saw beauty in nature and exploring what the simple things in life can offer.
I remember Terry from the 70s too - as a five year old I knew that he was gentle and kind. He was always welcoming and I loved visiting your magical home on MountainView Rd, with the gong, the swing and trampoline and Juliet laughing and playing with me - happy childhood memories. Many years later Terry spoke at dad´s funeral and his eulogy was the one that resonated with me most. It was succinct and outlined the essence of their friendship and of dad. He ended by saying dad saw the world in a grain of sand and read the opening lines of The Auguries of Innocence by William Blake:
"To see a World in a Grain of Sand
And a Heaven in a Wild Flower
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand
And Eternity in an hour "
I hung this on my wall for years later as both a comfort and a guidance. The next time I saw Terry was at mum´s 80th birthday - it was the most delightful surprise and so special to us all that you came.
Thank you Terry, for your thoughtfulness, your beautiful way of seeing and for decades of friendship with our family.
We remember you with love.
Kindest wishes
May and Abi Needham
