Known as Mrs Opie to me, my favourite teacher at PNGHS. Always showed such interest in our work and was so encouraging . I went on to have a career in the design industry inspired by her and when I thought of my school years Mrs Opie was always top of mind. So sorry for your loss and Condolences to you all x

My heartfelt thoughts to Sue's whanau. I was an ex-pupil of PNGHS and spent a considerable amount of time in the sanctuary of the Art Room with Sue at the helm in the 1980s. With her support, I went on to Art School and am now Head of Department for Communication and Interaction Design at Auckland University of Technology-a path I could not have taken without her ability to see and nurture the creative potential in me.
Unfortunately, we lost touch, but I remember Sue as an articulate and critical educator, deeply connected to our subject and creative community, who provided networks and opportunities that paved my way.
I see she had a show Still at Waiheke in 2024-had I known, I would have visited. Perhaps it´s time to purchase a work of hers - I also remember her penchant for having third formers learn to draw through those still-life installations.
