Sara Walters Lowe

Charlotte, North Carolina - Sara Walters Lowe passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on August 10, 2025 at Southminster in Charlotte, NC.
Sara was born November 5, 1935 in Greensboro, NC to Joe William Walters and Irene Culbreth Walters. She attended public schools in Greensboro and graduated from Greensboro Senior High School. She also graduated from Saint Mary's Junior College in Raleigh, NC where she was senior class President in 1955, and then from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill in 1957 where she was a member and President of the Chi Omega sorority.
She enjoyed a number of years on the office staffs at Charlotte Latin School and Christ Episcopal Church before her retirement in 1999.
Sara found great joy in spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of the Junior League of Charlotte, Charlotte Debutante Club, Charlotte Country Club, Ladies of The Club Book Club and Christ Episcopal Church where she and her family were active members. Her husband's parents were among the charter members of the Christ Church parish. Sara was a proud supporter of Crisis Assistance Ministry, R.A.I.N and the UNC Educational Foundation.
Mrs. Lowe was preceded in death by her husband Frank Robbins Lowe, Jr. in 1990, and by her son John Hargrave Lowe in 2017. She is survived by her beloved sons Frank Robbins Lowe, III (Kimberley Cavanaugh), and William Jefferson Lowe; daughter-in-law Cathy Cavender Lowe; sister Rebecca Taylor of Greensboro; grandchildren William Robbins Lowe (Jessica Pulge), Virginia Walters Lowe, Mary Henley Lowe and Sara Robbins Lowe; sister-in-law Anne Lowe Nuckolls of Greenville, SC; and several very special nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, August 19 at 11:00 am at Christ Episcopal Church, 1412 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC with a reception at the church immediately following the service. Committal will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to Christ Episcopal Church, 1412 Providence Road, Charlotte 28207, UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, 450 West Drive, Chapel Hill, NC 27599, or other charity of choice. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Robertson Funeral & Cremation Service
