I first met Rupert in Napier soon after completing my apprenticeship as Fitter for NZR. His helpful words and patience helped me to advance my qualifications to Loco Maintainer then later in Palmerston North becoming a Mechanical Engineer Level 5. I will always be grateful for his guidance. Over 35 years in Rail I found Rupert to be a rare gem in rail circles, that of .being a true gentleman. Rest well my friend

I am sadden to read of your passing Rupee. You were a great friend and your knowledge of railway has been a great help over the years, more than you will ever know. We all loved your "photo editing" and we will miss the laughs, but will never forget you .....
