I didn't know Ross well, but remember his passion for the coordination of the Palmerston North Film Society. It was so appreciated that he gave up his time to ensure Palmerstonians had an excellent selection of films to watch. It's a shame to see that despite efforts like his, Palmerston North no longer is on the schedule for the NZ International Film Festival movies, on now in many centres around the country. Moe mai ra Ross and condolences to your whanau.

I was shocked and saddened by the news of Ross“ passing. I taught with Ross for 20 years and it was a privilege to work with such an able, talented and enlightened teacher and wonderful man. I smile remembering the banter we had. Ross lit up the staff room daily with his sharp wit and constant humour, and his forward thinking views on teaching and education were always thought provoking. Ross has made a massive contribution to the teaching profession and to his wider community. He will be greatly missed by all of his students, colleagues, friends and most importantly his family.
Our sincere condolences to you Julie, and Reed and Meg.

Hi Julie, our family was very sad to hear of Ross's death. He taught most of our boys and they had good memories of him. Our sympathy and thought go out to you all. Mary Silcock

Dear Julie, Meg, and Reed:

I'm so sorry for your loss of Ross, so soon.

I used to bike to Waitaki Boys with Ross and Paul Oborn, especially in 1973/74. We would play space invaders on the game machines on the way home from school in Thames st.

I remember his very kind Mum and their twin Chihuahua dogs and Heather, his sister, who looked up to Ross as her big brother. Please give my respects to her as well.

Ross was a good friend that I lost contact with after our early varsity days. He obviously had a massive positive impact on PNBHS and TBHS.

I had re connected on Facebook and you all looked the very model of a loving and well-adjusted family. I intended to catch up with him personally but that was not to be, although I managed to get in touch with Paul Oborn, and give him Ross's contact details, and they manged to meet after 40+ years in April which was nice.

My love and sympathies go out to you all at this very sad time. He was a fun character and good to hang out with. He had a personable quirky zaniness about him which was immensely appealing, and yes Lou Reed....

Meg and Reed your father was a fine man, live by his values and you will not go far wrong in life.

To Julie, this must have come as an awful shock Now will be the time for the community to show you what a fine and decent guy you knew Ross was.

Looking at his photos in the Press today he hadn't changed a bit.

My sincerest condolences to you all for your great loss.
