High Flight
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
of sun-split clouds,and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed ofwheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air. . . .
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark nor ever eagle flew
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

What an amazing life you have led Uncle Rex. Dad always held you in such high regard and ensured that we did the same. I did not need long to understand why he respected you so much as you gave time to us younger ones enthralling us with your wonderful stories and the high standards you kept. Clearly you, and all the Thompson family, had a huge influence over Dad which was passed on to all of our family as well much to our greater benefit. The times we have spoken with you and your books that I have brought, read and still have are a wonderful treasure to me personally.
You would have known just how much Jack & Evon Williams thought of you & Leigh as a cousin and friend, indeed as a guiding hand in those early years of their lives together. It had to be so because they ensured that John, Shona, Donald and I knew of you & the rest of your "tribe".
Chocks away & Bon Voyage Ken Jane, Anna & Gretchen Williams.
