I played once against Phil in the Nationals at Wellington and he assisted me with a couple of issues when I was on the board of Bowls Wellington.
A massive Totara has fallen and will be missed by all bowlers.

I played many games against Phil, anytime I was ahead he would stop for a cuppa or sidetrack me with talking. I played in the first masters and got to know him well and are very sorry to hear of his death
