Paul was a much loved art student mentor at Palmerston North Teachers College. He always found the germ of creativity that could enliven thinking and consequent art work.

And of course he enriched New Zealand's arts world immensely with his own brilliant sculptures.
H was a great artist.
Fran, take care, you have been a splendid spouse to a special man.

Dear Fran, Ben, Daniel, Phoebe and family,
I remember Paul very well from the many days I spent at the house in the 80s, as a friend of Ben's from school. I was reminded of Paul just two weeks ago, when I attended the Te Manawa exhibition (visiting from Australia as my Mother is ill). I remember the 80s visits very fondly, that your doors were always open. I remember when he drove us out to Linton and showed us his favourite place - the church on the hill where you were married. My deepest sympathies to you all, and thoughts are with you at this time. My Mum also sends her condolences

Paul was my inspirational art teacher at Palmerston North Teachers College. I never forgot his dead pan look with that occasional rye twinkle in the eye. I admired him greatly and have looked up to him all my life since those days. A truly incredible artist of the highest order. One of my proudest days of my life was when he gave me a A+ for my final year exhibition. I remember him saying "yeah its not bad". The highest of compliments from Paul.
Go well. Your work will live on. Condolences to Fran and family
