Myra SHOTTON Obituary

Myra passed away at Palmerston North Hospital on 14th January 2026. Dearly loved wife of Rodney, and dearly loved mother of Trevor. Much admired and loved by all Rod's family, Ken & Shirley Shotton, Isabel Jayet (all deceased), Jeanette Scott, Barbara & Russell Bakalich, and their families. Myra was so generous with her time – secretary of the Manawatu Film Society, Citizens Advice, Ozanam House Hospice, Prisoners Aide and anyone who needed help. Privately cremated. No service will be held.

Myra was a stalwart of the Palmerston North Film Society and will be missed greatly. She was secretary when I first joined in 1986 and held that position ever since. She had a great knowledge of the workings of the Society, knew all our members and the films we had to offer and always had a wry comment on life, especially with regard to others peculiar senses of humour. Myra had a generous heart and was always willing to help others, though she didn't suffer fools gladly. She and Rod made a formidable team and could always be relied upon to get things done. She will be asking us to not make a fuss and to just keep on going. Myra, the final credits are running but your light will shine on long after the lights have gone up. If I should go before the rest of you...
Cast not a stone
But be your usual selves that I have known...
Cry if you must parting is hell...
But life goes on so sing as well...

Rest in Peace my dear sister inlaw...

Heartfelt condolences and hugs galore, Rod and Trevor. For so long, Myra was the Palmerston North Film Society (PNFS) - working quietly and diligently in the background, ensuring things ticked along smoothly and without a hitch. We had some fun times and great conversations.
Missing Myra terribly. Goodbye my friend.

Was very sad to hear of Myra's passing. Myra was involved with the Palmerston North Film Society for many years, and it was always great having a chat when she came into the cinema. Sending love to Rod, and all of Myra's friends and family. From Brendon (Event Cinemas Palmerston North)
