I first met Michael as a Youth Worker in Levin, he was my mentor for this role, I think he brought me my first thesaurus!. He was working as a Probation Officer at the time. I maintained a friendship with Michael over the years after moving to Palmerston North in 1987. I last saw Michael when I was back in Palmerston in 2019. I am so sorry to hear of his passing, he was a very special person and friend. Sending his family my deepest condolences and in particular to Jacob.

Michael and I share a wonderful son whom we both adore. When our marriage ended we were always able to successfully co-parent Jacob due to a mutual respect and a shared pride and joy in our son.Michael was generous, extremely intelligent, a great leader, funny and eccentric. As a father he was very loving, supportive and encouraging. I was lucky enough to catch up with him recently and we shared memories and had a lot of laughs together. RIP Michael.

I was sad to read that Michael has died. I worked with him in CYFs and was always so impressed with his sense of social justice, his incredible intellect, his wit, wisdom, vision, and leadership. He was a special person.
