Marilyn GUINAN Obituary

Passed away peacefully at home and surrounded by her family on Thursday, 12 February 2026, aged 88 years. Marilyn loved life. She cherished her many dear friends, but above all, she loved her home and family, and her beloved husband, John (dec). Her children Carolyn, Mandy, Bill and Pip, together with their partners Mark, Dean and Henry, have lost their matriarch, mentor and dearest friend. Her grandchildren Hannah, Raymond, Hayley, Tom (dec), Amanda, Jennifer, Magi, John, Lisa, Ollie and Sarah will forever miss her thoughtfulness and kindness. She was also a proud great-grandmother to 11, with that number still growing.

You have earned your rest, Marilyn.

Marilyn will be at home with family until a colourful funeral service to celebrate her life that will be held at the Beauchamp Crematorium Chapel, 167 John F Kennedy Drive, Palmerston North, on Wednesday, 18 February 2026, at 2pm. For those that are unable to attend you may watch live at Marilyn's tribute page www.beauchamp.co.nz/tributes

Marilyn (Mrs Guinan, Mrs G) was my teacher at Clifton School in Bulls in 1983 (I was 8) and again in 1986 (aged 11). She was fun, enthusiastic, kind and fair to everyone, made us sing songs while she played the piano, did fancy lettering on the blackboard, and I still have my 'for times tables' pottery mug she made when we learnt the 12 times tables - the best teacher in the world...ever! After I left school and in to adult years, Marilyn could pick me out in a crowd and remember who I was. How could she remember me as surely I looked different as an adult? But no... she had the most amazing memory and made you feel so special. I had the pleasure of reconnecting with her last year (my age 50) and visiting her home at Speldhurst, taking her out for lunch, sharing a cuppa and talking about the years gone by. She told me to call her Marilyn (and not Mrs Guinan) as surely we were past the teacher/student stage she said. Full respect to you Marilyn, the GOAT of life. Hope you're enjoying a whiskey or two up above.
