Andrea and family, on behalf of the Te Manawa Trust Board I want to offer you our sincere condolences and also our thanks for sharing John with us, particularly in the recent years. John's strength of character and sense of humour were very evident in this time and there will be a large empty space for those of us who visit the office. John was always ready with a smile and a wry comment but never a cross word. I know from his colleagues that John was also a highly competent and dedicated professional who made a strong contribution to Te Manawa and willingly shared his knowledge with others. John will be sorely missed by all of us but most of all by you, those closest to him. In these strange and worrying times, I am your farewell will have been stressful. Please accept our condolences and prayers and our thoughts. RIP

Very sad to hear of Johns passing. I really enjoyed working with and getting to know John over the years. We shared a passion for aviation and will miss our chats and his aviation pic's. John was a real gentleman and I'm honoured to have known him

Having just visited John & Andrea a fortnight before this it has come as shock. I have known John since the late 1970's when he first joined the Palmerston North Astronomical Society as a teenager. His enthusiasm was evident right from the start and his interests went beyond observing right through to the history of astronomy in our region. His relaxed style will always be remembered by us long serving members. The picture is of John typically helping out at a working bee on the old dome back in 1985, getting everything ready for Halley's Comet later that year. we will miss you very much my friend.
