RIP Eldon. I remember practising so hard back in my school days just hoping to get more than a "not bad..." out of you, the way you would tease me by saying you weren't going to call me on the day exam results were due out if I failed and then finally calling me well after 10pm (hey this was back in my school days and on a school night!) to tell me I'd got honours for my Grade 8 and that I owed you two bottles of whiskey.... your claims that you knew me since I was a foetus because my Mum worked with you at Massey when she was pregnant with me - actually she did once tell me that you used to bring your clarinet into work and she would have to listen while you tried different mouthpieces, then you taught my Dad....

Thanks to you I got to play in Barnum and Evita and as your second clarinet in the Manawatu Sinfonia.... Thank you also for coming to Wellington to attend my final recital at VUW - hearing your and Mr Bevan's voices before seeing you made it for me plus the very honest feedback I got from you on the phone the next day.

I will particularly remember you when I play or hear Brahams Sonata No 1 in F
minor.

RIP my mentor, teacher, and later musical colleague and thank you for everything. Oh and please say hi to Marijcke - I'm sure she will be among those waiting to meet your ship.

My thoughts also with Ngaire, Raewyn, John and families.
