John Marquet was an Anglican student among us Presbyterians when I was at Otago 1978-1980. He was a humble, highly intelligent and quietly encouraging man who had the maturity many of us lacked. I am grateful for having met him and travelled a short part of the road with him. I know we will see him one day in Jesus Christ. Praise God for such men.

I had the privilege of having John as my Spiritual Director for 2021/2022. I appreciated his wisdom, encouragement, advice and his support. I too will miss his wonderful laughter when we shared a lighter moment online. I first met John at an ISCF camp at Titirangi Bay in the 1970's and I really appreciated catching up again 40 years later in our monthly meetings. He was a wise man of God who had genuine humanity and a deep love of God and people. He would always go the extra mile for me and nothing was too much trouble for him. My sincere sympathy to Gail and family. Murray Lucas

We had great and fond memories of Brother John in the days of St Matthews. we were lay readers together . He visited our home and we fellowshipped and were doing things together. I worked as a sales rep and whene John and Fiona lived in Milton as a pastor I often called in to say hello while I worked the area or as I was passing through to Central Otago. I always enjoyed his edifying preaching . that was when we focused on the Sent One , the Holy Spirit. Gail, May you continually know the closeness of the Lord around your life and the family you have. We bless you and Jesus is your light going forward. Stay strong as you trust Jesus at such a time as this. Herb and Lyndsey

I only learned on Saturday of the death of my fine friend John Marquet and so was not able to come to Palmerston North for his funeral. John was a great colleague and mate from the days of Anglican Renewal Ministries when he was a Board member from the Waikato diocese. We created and led many ministries inspired by the Holy Spirit. I often visited with him at Palmerston North and will miss his presence when next I visit. My love and condolences to Gail and all his family. Don Battley, former National Coordinator and Chairman, ARMNZ.

To Gail, Andrew, Rachael, and Joanna and families.
We were quite shocked and sad to hear of John´s death. Far too soon. We have worked with John since the 1970´s in various roles and appreciated the faith in Christ he brought to all he did. Our thoughts and prayers are with you today. Every blessing - Paul and Dale Williamson. ( p.s. we are sorry to miss the funeral as we only arrived back into NZ yesterday.)

John supervised my spiritual direction training 2000-2001 and I am deeply grateful for his profound wisdom, deep insight, and warm encouragement to me in that capacity ever since. I have enjoyed his warm friendship, his hospitality and been inspired by his honest and passionate relationship to God and his genuine love for all people. I will greatly miss his laughter, his support, his good coffee and also his wise and cheerful contribution to our spiritual directors network.

I worked with John at All Saints church some years ago and will remember him for his kindness to his parishioners and to those in need of a listening ear and a friendly smile. He will be missed for his very warm and open heart. You will be home now John and with our Lord who you loved so much. God bless.

John supervised my spiritual direction training through 2021/22. We laughed frequently as we met online, even as we dived into the more sensitive details of my development and training. John's warmth and wisdom created a 'home' for me in that way. I will miss his ready laugh, his profound intuition, and his personal support for me. I think of Andrew Marquet, whose friendship I enjoyed when we studied together at Laidlaw College. Andrew, I'm so sorry you have lost your father. Jim McInnes
