I knew John "Buddy " , as hs dad would call him , from Primary School in Palmerston North. Our Lady of Lourdes. We must have only been 6 or 7 when we first met. Normal School kids growing up playing sport and the like. John would often turn up to Saturday Rugby in his Dads American Car , left hand drive which in the late '60's early 70's was quite the sight.
We went through HIgh School all the way , Marist Brothers PN and then St Peters College PN. He socialised as kids all the way in a group and John was one of us. He was always keen to socially meet up and would often drive in from Fielding in his Dads Range Rover , which raised eyebrows back in those days.He lived in our house for a short time when we were 19 or so before he moved into his own place.Always on the look out for his next business opportunity. It was in his blood from his Dad , who owned InsulFluff , the house insulation Company.John was on a mission to have business and sell. He did so at an early age which I admired his go get nature and ideas.
Unfortunately time meant we both left PN and went or own ways and I have not seen John for 35 plus years.I knew he lived in Canada for a while and had returned to NZ . My Mum saw in PN at Carolines Funeral a couple of years back.
My sympathies go to his Family and hope this difficult time has you surrounded by family and friends.

So sorry to read of John's passing. I used to enjoy our chats over a coffee at my cafe. I didn't realise that he was living in Taupo which is my hometown. Love Toni McLennan
