Dear Nigel and Sheryl, and family
Since I can't be with you at Ivor's service, please accept my condolences on your loss, and this tribute to Ivor's memory.
I distinctly remember spending time with Ivor and Joan when they would travel down for visits to Wellington, having lunch with them in the city. And I recall visiting their Raumati home for supper, and the little Scottie dog they had at that time. Ivor always had a twinkle in his eye. He would have a laugh with Sheryl and me, in the days when we were still young enough to be called 'girls' by him! I remember he had some strong opinions and he was a lively and entertaining character. After I left New Zealand, I would send Ivor and Joan a Christmas card from wherever I happened to be (Moscow, USA...) and when I returned to Wellington, they would always remember to thank me and to ask about my travels.
I know Ivor had overcome challenges in his life, including migrating to New Zealand and making a new home for his family. He had strength of character. He was tough and feisty, all qualities that helped him along in life and I'm sure with his health challenges of late. I know Ivor's presence in your lives will be missed. I hope you can take heart in knowing that, in your extended family, he has left a wonderful legacy, including his sons, you, Nigel, and Chris, of whom he was always so very proud.
May Ivor rest in peace, and may you take comfort in knowing that you and Sheryl were there for him when he most needed you.
With our sincere sympathies,
Tania, Karl and Ryan
