as a grandaughter of Syd i would like to share the grief with everyone family friends anyone who knew his he was an amazing person I wrote a poem to share
In hills and valleys, he'd roam,
Grandad's spirit, tramping, found home.
Through whispering pines and rivers' flow,
His journey shaped stories, heart aglow.

Syd was simply a force of nature. To paraphrase C.S. Lewis, and with him now in God's hands, I envision Syd as a sword. A righteous blade that when the Almighty moves it across the heavens, it makes thunder and lighting. My prayers and condolences, Joe Bouton

Rest in Peace, Syd. At church, you mentored my girls, helping them become who they are today. You will be truly missed. My girls, Juliet and Grace, sent their love and condolences and wished they could be here to say their final goodbyes. Rest in Christ's love. 'Ofa lahi atu from the Fakahau family <3

I want to express the sadness of his French friends. He did his PhD in France in the 70s at Lusignan. Here, Easton name remains engraved on the stone and in the hearts. Although I did not know him at the time, my colleagues warmly recommended him to me when I wanted to do a post-doc in New Zealand. He welcomed me and my wife Sylvie in 1995. He was always there for us, with a great kidness. I remember him with a cup of tea in his hand, amused by our experiences of misfit Frenchies in NZ... and so happy to practice his French, which was just great. Syd was a "belle personne".

Dear Audrey and all Syd's family.
We did not know Syd for very long but we will miss him and feel privileged he came to the working bees we had and made a difference to the bush that we hope will be his legacy. Thank you and may all of you find some solace in walking the tracks through the peace of the bush he contributed to. With love to you all.

A great tramping friend as well as knowing him at work. He was a fit supportive tramper who looked after slower trampers and stepped in to fill in for missing trips. We will miss him tremendously
