Dearest Graham, we have just heard: so sorry. Our first words were “devastating” and then “wonderful”. How devastating for dear Pat, your beautiful soulmate, and your family. But then, “What a wonderful man and what a wonderful life lived.”
A man’s man, one of life’s steady ships, with a powerful moral compass, unambiguous views on everything, and an uncompromising professional, with handshake to-boot. You were the rock for Mum and Dad and for us kids, for so many years, and for your family too.
It was as a perfectionist that Debbie and I hold our most endearing memories. It is mischievous I know, but it needs telling: the Plaza Hotel in Kings Cross failed your fire-escape test. An unconvincing hotel manager admonished. You designing your own make-ready escape plan.
Such a softie, you held so much love for your family, friends, dogs and travel. You have provided good counsel on difficult life matters; you surprised with mocking humour; and you often laughed long, especially with Mum and Dad. They loved you and Pat dearly. Such good company. Such a good friend. Love to Pat and family.
Love Debbie and Peter

My condolences to the family. Graham you set the benchmark for the fire service and fire protection Industry with your steadfast professionalism and dedication to all that you did. The district hospital buildings are a living testament to fire protection standards and level of fire safety you attained in those establishments you were responsible for. It will forever be a privilege to have known you. You will be sadly missed but not forgotten. RIP. Dave Pettitt PNFB (Retired)

My heart bleeds at your passing, but I know you are now at peace and with the angels. Mum and I will miss catching up with you on Thursdays, talking about the flag you were flying and hearing your jokes.
My first memory of you is at the fire station in Palmerston North. And I'm sure that it was you in the stretcher that was let down from the Hospital roof in an evac demonstration. The excitement that the four cousins (Steve, Tony, Darren, myself) felt at being in the Christmas parade riding in a new piece of Hospital transport.
The many Christmas and New Year family get-togethers rotating between Mum and Dad's, Nana and Dada's or you and Aunty Pat's.
I will always remember and love you, and have my flag flying at half mast in your honour. Your niece, Gail.

My father, my mentor, my teacher, my coach, my idol, my hero, my family leader, my mum's best friend and by far the coolest guy I will have ever known. We will miss you every day, but we will always try to make you proud. Your son Tony and daughter-in-law Julz.
