I will always be grateful to Freda for welcoming me into her home often, when I was an American Field Scholar in 1978. Before the internet, the only contact I had with my own family was through letters and voice cassette tapes we use to post back and forth. I became friends with Terence and through him, was introduced to Freida. I spend countless hours sitting across the kitchen table, drinking instant coffee listening to her talk about her children and life in New Zealand. Through these chats I developed a love for her wicked sense of humor. She made me feel comfortable and somehow closer to 'home" because of her kind and welcoming nature. All these years later, I have never forgotten her kindness and her allowing me to feel like I was part of the family. Rest well, Frieda. I love you.
