Passed away suddenly following a tragic accident. We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Richie and Pops, the heart and soul of our family. Dearly loved husband of Julia. Father of Sarah, Sophie, Duncan and Ally, and grandfather to Xavier, Eva, Scarlett, Luca and Zoe. Brother of Sue, Nicky, Simon and Catherine. Father-in-law to Nathan, Phil and Lizzie. We request no flowers, please buy a bottle of wine and toast to Richard instead. A service to celebrate Richard's life will be held at the Old St Paul's, 34 Mulgrave Street, Wellington, on Wednesday, October 29th, 2025 at 11.00am. Richard employed me in 1997 and I had the great good fortune to work with the team at Johnsonville Medical Centre for several years and had the privilege of watching Richard´s hard work dedicated for his patients. I of course also worked with Julia and Sarah. I´m a devastated to hear of his passing. The world is definitely poorer.
Sending love to Julia and family at such a sad time.

Dear Julia - I am thinking of you and your family - sending warm and supportive thoughts to you all. I worked quite closely with Richard in the early days of organised general practice He was astute and forward thinking, and good humoured even in some challenging situations. I very much respected Richard and learned a lot about governance from him. I will remember him as active and involved in everything he did. I am so sorry for your loss. Lynn McBain

Dear Julia - Words cannot express the tragedy you have suffered. My thoughts are with you. Although I have not seen either of you for some years, I was in the past on a couple of committees with Richard. You will remember the great medical group skiing holidays we had in Wanaka/Cardrona, when you were both there.
Please accept my condolences and pass them on to your children and grandchildren. All my best wishes - Tom Farrar

So sorry to hear of Richard´s death. We played squash frequently at Khandallah years ago. A great fair minded competitor who usually outlasted me.

Richard was our family doctor for nearly 40 years and delivered our youngest son. He was a diligent doctor who was direct and forthright but with a keen sense of humour. He enjoyed sharing travel stories. He will be sorely missed. My condolences to Julia and family on this huge loss.

On behalf of Janet Heaver ( now 90) a patient. Deepest sympathy to his family and work colleagues. Richard always made me laugh after treating sun spots on my face - he would say "there you are all beautiful again". A very nice man. May he Rest in Peace

You don´t know me but many many ago we were next door neighbours of the Tyler family in High Street, Rotorua. I was about 19 when we moved to Hamilton, I used to babysit Richard and Susan. I knew Richard was a Dr like his Dad Ross but didn´t know where he was in the world. We were 49 High Street and they were 47. My very sincere condolences to all the family. My maiden name was Marie Ion. Susan may or may not remember me. Marie Knight.

Julia: I cannot imagine the shock and horror you must be feeling. I clearly remember how close you were when we lived on Castle Street all those years ago, and since then, you have built your lives as a unit in all possible ways. You are very much in my thoughts. We live near Christchurch, close-ish to the state highway south. If you are ever down this way, you are welcome to call in. Kind regards, Betsy
