Father Heslin I can remember you from many years ago when you were parish priest in Woodville. I would have only been about 9 or 10 years old. Your Irish accent fascinated me. I really enjoyed listening to your sermons. I can remember you coming for tea at our place. You were very brave as there were six of us very rowdy children! Rest in peace. Ginny Johnson.

Uncle Dominic
May you rest in eternal peace.
I´m grateful for your many visits to NY and NJ with my mother and father hosting some amazing get togethers especially when they lived in the Catskills. I´m also grateful for the 3 times I visited you in NZ especially the last time when Anna B and I came for your 80th birthday celebration- what a wonderful time meeting your friends that became your family.
You will be missed by all of us.

Dominic was the reason and motivation for myself entering the seminary in 1974. We used to write to each other often. Dominic was a young assistant priest at St Joseph's Levin. I was a student there for 8 years. He taught me to be an altar boy. He coached my rugby team. He often visited our house to socialise with my mum Mollie OFlaherty and my dad Eric Martin. He taught us religious education. So he was very influential in my life. He was a role model for me and I wanted to be like him. Dominic, I'm sure you played a big part in influencing many Catholics in every parish you served in. Thank you for your service to God and to us. All my aroha and gratitude for a life well lived.

We have fond memories of Father Dominic from our years of living in Whanganui and attending Mass at the wee church in Whangaehu. Father Dominic was a fine priest, a personable man with a lovely sense of humour, and the ability to deliver homilies which got one thinking! Rest in Peace Father Dom.
