Deborah McKAY Obituary

Passed away at Chiswick Park Rest Home on Sunday 9 March 2025 after a long battle with illness which she faced with bravery, stoicism and never a complaint. Aged 62 years. Beloved firstborn of the late Margaret and Colin. Adored Granddaughter of Colin and Maisie McKay, and Keith and Gwen McDowell. Loved sister of Grant, Hamish, Campbell, and Lauren. Cherished aunty, cousin and niece to many. The family would like to extend a sincere thanks to all of Deborah's carers and friends for their kindness, thoughtfulness and wonderful care - not just for in the last 12 months but throughout her life. A special thank you to her loyal friend Denise. She will be dearly missed and remembered for her self deprecating, dry humour and her lessons in The King's English. Messages to the McKay family C/- 191 North Street, Feilding 4702. According to Deborah's wishes there will not be a funeral. A private burial will take place at the Apiti cemetery with her siblings in attendance.

I'm so sorry to find out belatedly about Deborah. My brother and I have known her for years. I used to either see her at the hospital or in the Plaza.

I knew Debbie about 10 years.
I got her groceries and paid bills for her.
When she was in hospital I took her things she needed.
I will miss her.
RIP

Thinking of you all in your sadness.
I have fond memories of the many conversations I had with Debbie - always polite, never complaining and always interested in the welfare of others.

My deepest sympathies to Debbie's family as you face the impact of losing her.

Debbie was a wonderful and unique person, highly intelligent and beautiful both inside and out. I was privileged to get to know Debbie in her's and my thirties. We shared a number of aspects of our individual lives with each other and she always had words of understanding and compassion. Debbie was one of the most beautiful and special persons I have ever been privileged to meet and know. Even though I moved away from the Manawatu and lost contact with Debbie, I will forever be grateful for the gift she blessed me with - herself.
Be at peace Debbie. Your light still shines brightly through the lives you touched. I will remember you always.

To the mckay family. Our thoughts are with you at this time. It was a shock to read of her passing. I would always have a chat when I saw her and your mum at countdown as it was then. I see your mum has passed on as well. Ash used to pick up Deborah in the taxi when she was either going out or going home to her house. Kindest regards Lyn and Ash miller.
