Well done boys. If you truly wish to honour your teacher, live the kind of life he would be proud of. Be brave, honest, kind and raise good kids yourself. Then you keep his light shining on forever.

When news of a teachers death travels the world and his name is on a strangers lips on the other side of the planet, then you may be sure that this man was a great man. Mr Tamateas' legacy will live on and through every boy he taught. Clearly those who have know him have felt themselves blessed. This is a life truly well spent. My admiration sir.

Believing and Living your culture and teaching young people was in this life your heartful Passion, in honour i am impressed about the Spirit You Must have given to everybody who met you in Person.
Take care and have a great journey into your next step of spiritual Evolution !

What an impressive battle cry for a beloved teacher. I saw the students expression of honor and respect for someone who made a mark in the hearts and minds of these young people. God bless the Teacher, the Students and all of New Zealand.

Our condolences to the Tamatea family at this sad time. Mr. T was my form teacher in 1991, he took me under his wing and looked out for me the 5 Years at school. So proud to see how PNBHS performed the school Haka in his honour. My mother also worked with Mr Tamatea. He will be sadly missed.

I have fond memories of our days at Elgin School and the St Mark's Parish. Your family was well respected in our neighbourhood and it does not surprise me to read of the love and respect expressed by those who knew you here in Palmie, especially at PNBHS. To your Dad, Mack, Ben, and Polly - arohanui. RIP Dawson.

Dear Andrea and daughters. I am living in the UK and have just learned of Dawson's passing via the tremendous Facebook posting of the Palmy Boys haka tribute for him. At T Coll Dawson was a natural leader. What a legacy he has left behind. Sorry for your loss. RIP Dawson.

My thoughts go out to the family of Mr Tamatea. I had Mr T as a form teacher and P.E. teacher back in the early 2000's and he had such a friendly and engaging manner you couldn't help but like him. He will leave a big hole in the Palmy Boys community.

I only knew Dawson for a few years through golf. But he was a lovely caring man who cherished his family, friends and his culture. But saying that it was fantastic to take his money last time I played him. Condolences to the family.

To the Tamatea Whanau

Tama's as I knew him was my kaiako for 5 years in Te Reo Maori. His classes were the ones I looked forward to the most. We had so much fun and laughs in our little H4 classroom. He was more a bro than my teacher. Kind, funny learnt so much from him. He would be the 1st teacher I'd visit going back to School. Arohanui ki to whanau! RIP Tama's.

Mr T, I was lucky enough to test your ear pulling at Monrad Intermediate, and then again at PNBHS, A legend teacher, passionate softballer, very capable tennis player, best of all a mentor to many. You still said Hi, years after my school days. My thoughts are with your family, your school and the 1000's that will miss you for years to come. Thank you Sir.

Deeply saddened and shocked to hear of Dawson's passing. Still remember those great days we had playing tennis in Poverty Bay, and was always made to feel welcome at Childers Rd. Great bloke from a great family. Sincere and heartfelt condolences to Andrea and family, and to Jube (Mr Tamatea), Mack, Polly and Ben. Mate, say g'day to your Mum for me.

What a touching farewell. Some teachers enter our mind eternally and change us as individuals even if sometimes we fail to realize it in the midst of our academic challenges. Our Most sincere condolences to all the students and his family.
