Im so very sorry to hear of David's passing. He was such a wonderful caring man with a huge personality.
I was lucky enough to have him officiate our wedding in 2002 in Lyttelton. David and Edna were great friends of my parents, Rob & Arlene Stanley.
Huge condolences to Edna and the family. X

David is one of those rarely found and unforgettable (hence my use of the present tense!) gentlemen who have not only been highly capable in the pursuit of their chosen vocation ( in his case the law) but kind, humane and truly empathetic with it. R.I.P., David.

Condolences to the McKegg family - I had the privilege of hearing David speak at a lunch for Administrators hosted by AAPNZ (Association Administrative Professonals NZ) Nelson Group a few years ago, and inspired by his dedication to his role as judge and his way of dealing with those less fortunate. One of life's good people.. who will be sadly missed.

Out thoughts are with Dave and Edna´s family at this time. They were incredibly amazing neighbours to Jeff and Ange and their three children. Hiding Easter Eggs in the garden. Very supportive during when Ange´s health decline. Following her passing Edna lovingly ironed Jeff´s shirts for him. Kate Jaime and Sam loved to visit.
Love to you all Sheryl and Michael Bryant

One of the first Judges I worked with in Blenheim at the start of 15 years of service with Justice. A lovely man and a firm fair judge I enjoyed working with. Thinking of you all - you loose a husband, father, grandfather with such a big heart and personality. All the best.

My deepest condolences to David's family, I am very much saddened by his passing.
Judge McKegg was the first Judge I appeared before as a lawyer. Subsequently and without any request he provided me with a reference prior to my OE - assisting me in getting a law Job in the UK - when speaking to him in advance of that trip - he extoled the virtues of roller coasters bemoaning that he had not discovered them earlier in life and that I must stop in LA for that purpose.
On my appointment as a Judge I spoke with David and he was as usual full of enthusiasm and advice delivered with his familiar booming voice and good humor, correctly predicting that I would find Whangarei to be a great place to sit. He will be missed.

We have lost a lovely man - a good friend and a terrific judge. I worked alongside David at Whangarei when on circuit duties up there. Alongside Edna, the McKeggs were wonderfully hospitable and with David's booming voice - there was always a story or two to tell. His legacy will be his fairness - ability - and absolutely wonderful sense of humour.

David was the head prefect at Russell Street School in 1953. He was the one who phoned his classmates on that year´s Christmas Day to let them know Jack Nicholls was on the train that went into the river at Tangiwai. Sadly, they never found Jack.
A lot of us will have vivid memories of David´s birthday parties with home movies involving Donald Campbell and Bluebird before we all were taken upstairs at the Mayfair Theatre to see a Gene Autry movie. In our living room, I recall David leaping seat first into a very soft and comfortable lounge suite before trying the same on a hard bed sitter.
We have stayed in touch and he was often asked after by his fellow ex-pupils of Russell Street. His wit was always sharp. When I put of photo on Facebook of my looking out the prisoners´ window on Venice´s Bridge of Sighs, David wrote, "Ah, Guy, I always knew it would come to that!"
We will all have a truckload of great memories, mine including David´s whitebait fritters.
Sadly, we know the family will now have a great hole. But David often happily recalled the Russell Street motto - Ake runga! Onward and upward.

To a great man, you have become a star in the heavens. Rest in peace (you have gone to your long sleep). My love and best wishes to your whanau.
Judge McKegg was one of the resident Judges in Whakatane when I was a young lawyer there. It was always a pleasure to appear before him. He was firm and fair, and he understood our people in the Eastern Bay and treated them with respect although never shy to say it to how it was. And his sense of humour made things real! I had the pleasure of chatting to him a year or so ago. A very special man.

David was a very experienced Judge by the time I was appointed in 2003. He was loved by his judicial colleagues and respected for his empathy, knowledge of the law, common sense and his extraordinary sense of humour. My condolences to all of his family.
