I have fond memories of Charlie when I was at Takaro school. 10 cent pack of fish and chips every Friday, wrapped in newspaper. RIP

Love & condolences on the passing of your beloved Husband & father, Charlie was a true Highbury icon, Legend, I think he chased most of us kids with his cleaver, but would never hurt a fly, had the pleasure of bumping into him at the Warehouse about 12-15 months ago, he recognised me straight away, we reminisced about the Highbury days, I´m sorry I just found out tonight about his passing, and noticed the funeral was today, May you rest in peace Charlie Moe Mai ra

My name is Irene Taiwhati, I grew up with my other 8 siblings at the back of higbury shops. No 43 Ellesmere Crescent. Charlie put up with a lot of crap remember him running out of his fish n chip shop with a clever in his hand, yelling at who ever he was chasing, but we all kept coming back and charlie always served you no matter what you did wrong too him. Cos lol he knew your parents so would tell them.
He was well respected from all of us who grew up with him. When dad , mum and my sister passed, he made sure that the first nite meals at the marae was lifted from the fish n chip shop, even when he sold it and found out we lost our mum, Charlie was there telling the owners too cook a lot of chips n fish, sausages, meat paddies you name it, so giving was our Charlie. You were sadly missed when you sold the chip shop, you are going too be forever missed by all. Fly high Charlie
