Christopher MERCER Obituary

Passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on 2nd March 2026, aged 78 years. Much loved father of Andrew and Nina, Sam and Emily, Leanne and Bodean, and Gem and Peter. Treasured grandfather of 10 grandchildren, and best friend to Audrey. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Peggy. A funeral service will be held at St Andrew's Church, Palmerston North, at 10.00am on Saturday, 7th March 2026.

Earlier today

So sorry to read of Chris's passing. He was such a nice guy; he had the office next to me for quite a long time; we had lots of laughs too. And he supplied so many people at AgR with his wonderful honey. Best thing was, he was an entomologist so any bug I couldn't identify went to him; identification was instant. Rest in peace Chris. Thinking of his family at this sad time.

Earlier today

Chris was a good friend and an excellent researcher. He also kept us supplied with delicious honey for several years. I recall him also as the editor of the NZ Grassland Association at the turn of the century, when I took a photo of him at the Southland Museum during a social evening, when we found a sign saying "Chris Mercer" in the Museum! He will be remembered by his mates.
