Born in Rangiora. Chris died unexpectedly at the Nelson Tasman Regional Hospice after a brief and brutal encounter with Motor Neurone Disease. His wife Liz Chinnery, who for the past 17 years had cherished, cared and loved him beyond measure, was with him. He was the only son of Evelyn and Robert Bowyer, brother to Gillian Bowyer, Ken Reid, the late Gary Brooker, Fay Brooker and Lynton Brooker. Previously married to the late Maureen Hapeta his children are Dianne and Terry Wilson, Robert Bowyer, Lisa Bowyer and Chris Cowling. He was Poppy to his only grandson Aidan and great grandfather to Aidan's four children. Chris was also a highly respected friend of Lorraine McClurg, Simon Chinnery and Valerie Roberts and adopted grandfather to Simon's five boys. Chris had no time for fuss, formality, professionals or protocols so his wish to be cremated has been fulfilled.
