Catherine SIMS Obituary

Died peacefully, with close family by her side, on 5 January 2026, aged 78 years. Loving wife of Ralph Sims for 54 years; mother of Adam, Madeleine (deceased) and Miranda; mother-in-law of Will and Sarah; amazing "Gigi" to Georgia, Liam, Sophia, Cleo and Phoebe; sister to Andy and Dee and auntie to their families; and friend to many.

"A life full of love and laughter"

Cathy had bravely battled through a roller-coaster ride of a mysterious neuropathy condition for 18 months. As she wished for, a private cremation will be held with a celebration of her wonderful life to be held in mid-February.

Cathy and I were kindred spirit English teachers at PNGHS. Neither of us was very tall and both of us talked a lot so, when students came to the staff room door and asked for Mrs Sy/ims, they would have to say, the one with the rings in order to get Cathy! One memorable year Cathy and I took a group of Year 10 girls camping at Waitetoko where we went tramping and learned how to fly fish. Ralph and Dave had a wonderful working relationship at PNBHS and Adam and Miranda will always be remembered by us. Cathy´s love of language and literature and her warm, exuberant personality will be treasured by me. Arohanui to your whanau.
