With tremendous sadness at Brenda´s passing, I remember the twenty five years of her life as a teacher, spent at Pahiatua School. Her high work ethics and the way in which she sought to bring out the best in every kid in her care. She had empathy for those who needed extra nurturing. There will be many ex pupils who marvelled at her meticulous printing and strived to copy it. She spent many years coaching netball, probably the whole twenty five of them. My daughters have many happy and intriguing memories of life attached to the Leigh household.
I think of the love she had for Colin and the girls; a true family person, the typical eldest child, assuming responsibility for everything , to make things happen in an orderly fashion.
Our condolences to you all. From the Pahiatua School wider community.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Brenda's passing. She was an amazing leader who did not hesitate to support her staff or students. She not only knew the names of every student at her school she also knew their story, their strengths and wouldn't hesitate to do what was needed to help them shine. Rest in peace Brenda xx

I clearly remember the first time I met Brenda.
I had just moved to Hiwinu, two doors down from the school. Brenda had just become the Principal, 20 years ago.
I was woddling down the road heavily pregnant, Brenda approached me and introduced herself, she asked if I had a new entrant in my belly.
And yes I did.
Brenda wasn't just the Principal, she cherished every child, she knew all their names, her door was always open.
Brenda thank you for all the support and guidence you gave to Jak and Van over the past 20 years and for our friendship.
You will be hugely missed, not just at school but by the entire Hiwinui community.
Our deepest sympathy to Colin and family at this incredibly sad time.
