MARIO MICHIELI Obituary

It is with broken hearts that we announce the tragic passing of Mario Michieli surrounded by his loving family on the evening of June 15, 2024 at the age of 62.

Born June 8, 1962, in Fort William to loving parents Ferruccio and Lina Michieli, Mario grew up to be successful at everything he put his mind to. From football, winning the city championship, to hockey, winning the Memorial Cup, to construction and then successful business man. Mario attended both Lakehead University and Confederation College successfully completing a carpentry diploma then going on to own and operate Lormar Construction Inc. Building over 200 homes in Thunder Bay over 35 years and receiving Northern Ontario Builder of year in 1999 was a proud acknowledgement of his hard work and dedication.

Mario was always happy to see you, with a smile on his face. As big as he was, he was a very kind and gentle man. If there was anything he could do to help you he would try. His family was his highest priority, and he was always there for them, especially his two children who he loved with all his heart.

Mario will be lovingly remembered by sadly missed by his children Gabriella (Adam) and Nicholas (Beth) and their mother Lorraine, mother Lina Michieli, sister Marisa Kubinec (Mike, Ethan and Kayla), Julie Michieli (Max, Mackenzie and Molly) Eileen and Chris Kelos (Bianca, David and Jenna, Marco), Lisa and Jim Muccilli, mother-in-law Maria Chies, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends here and in Italy.

Predeceased by his father Ferruccio and his brother John. Father-in law Tony Pigat.

A Funeral Mass to celebrate Mario's life will be held at 11:00 on Friday, June 21, 2024, at St. Anthony's Church, 123 Hilldale Road, Thunder Bay, celebrated by Rev. Luigi Filippini. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday at the church from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. Entombment will follow in Our Lady of Charity Mausoleum, St. Andrew's Cemetery. A live stream of the service can be found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4AIiykhYEQ.

If family and friends desire, in lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may include donations to the Mario Michieli Memorial Fund at Lakehead University to create an award for students. Online donations can be made at donate.lakeheadu.ca Arrangements entrusted to the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street.

I have such fond memories of Mario or as I called him the godfather and he called me the godmother. From spending time with him playing pool in the basement on Central Avenue, to being at camp on Lake Superior to just having family Sundays and BBQ's, I have so many amazing memories. Mario always had a big hug and smile for me, spoke such LIFE over me and made me laugh. I am thankful for all the memories I have of Mario, and we are sending prayers of comfort for his children and family. Praying you feel all the love and prayers from Texas. We love you all. Going to miss our annual get together at my Cabin with One of The most humble Kind persons I´ve ever met. From our youth playing on the beavers together to our adventures in business life and family . There were stretches when we didn´t see each other , but when we got back together, that big grin of his would melt your heart. Always had a kind word to say. We are extremely saddened to hear of Mario's passing. Mario's smile, sense of humour, good nature and love of family was immediately noticeable. While we spent only precious hours together both here in Vancouver and in Thunder Bay, memories were created that are never forgotten and often spoken of.
Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with you all.
